OUR MISSION

To win the lost to Christ through preaching, teaching, worshiping, and fellowshipping.

By sharing the message of love, acceptance, and hope, we can bring light to those in darkness and offer a sense of belonging to those who feel lost. Through our words and actions, we can inspire others to seek a deeper connection through faith and with one another. As we come together in unity, we can create a community that uplifts, supports, and encourages each other on our spiritual journeys. Let us continue to spread the message of compassion and understanding, and lead by example in living out the values of kindness, forgiveness, and love.

Our
Story

HISTORY FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH FANNIN ST.

First Baptist Church was organized by 12 men on the 11th day of May 1828. The pastor of the church was Rev. James Reeves. The history of the white church indicates there were black members of First Baptist Church on the Square until the Civil War.

Originally, the black members worshiped in the balcony but met together in conference. Later, the black conference met separately and the black members were allowed to hold service for several years in the basement of the building. Being fervent worshippers, the black brethren were urged to

close their services earlier at night due to the noise of their meeting disturbing the neighborhood. As a result, the black members were later denied use of the building.

Records dated September 13, 1856, indicated the white membership was 136 and the black membership was 154. A later report indicated the white membership was 149 and the black membership was 232.

After leaving the white First Baptist Church, the members worshiped under a brush arbor and the Pastor was Rev. A. Williams. A member named Dunlap cut down trees and hewed them into stills. A house of worship was built by members who gave their time to the church.

In the early years, the following pastors guided the church in its growth and

dedication to winning the lost to Christ through preaching, teaching, outreach to the community, worshiping, and fellowshipping:

J. Gresham, Rev. C. D. Hubert, (Supply Pastor), Rev. P. H. Hale, and Rev. James Holloway.
