His Story

The Reverend Dr. Clarence Sams is a native of Savannah, Georgia. He graduated from Savannah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Sociology. Dr. Sams subsequently matriculated at The Interdenominational Theological Seminary, Morehouse School of Religion where he was awarded the Master of Divinity. In 1994, he earned a
Doctorate of Ministry from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. His early Christian training and development began at Central Baptist Church Hitch Village Savannah, Georgia under the leadership of Rev. William Daniel. Dr. Sams later joined Little Bryan Baptist Church, Gwinnett Street, Savannah, Georgia under the leadership of Rev. F.W. Butler. While a member of Little Bryan, Dr. Sams served as an usher, assistant Sunday School Superintendent, and Director of Vacation Bible School, and was ordained as a Deacon.

Dr. Sams accepted the call to the ministry and preached his initial sermon in August 1973. In June 1984, Dr. Sams accepted the Pastorship of First Baptist Church Fannin Street, LaGrange Georgia. He is the longest-serving pastor in the history of First Baptist Church, Fannin Street. Under Dr. Sam's leadership, First Baptist Church, Fannin Street has grown exponentially:
spiritually, serving the community, expanding youth programs, advancing, and enhancing ministries.

Dr. Sams is a humble, full of compassion, generous, Bible-led, God-fearing pastor dedicated to the spiritual growth of not only First Baptist Church, Fannin Street, but the entire city of LaGrange, Georgia. While he has many awards and accolades, his greatest reward is his family. Dr. Sams is married to the former Eugenia White of Savannah, Georgia. They have one
daughter, Clarez Sams Evans, son-in-law, Keith, and two grandchildren, Kendall, and Kennedi.

Dr. Sams accepts his call to ministry with steadfast faith, servant leadership, and a “determined” passion to introduce others to Christ!
